Many historical markers concerning the Warsaw Ghetto and Holocaust have been added in recent years to the city of Warsaw. Margaret has been assisting the Life in a Jar/Irena Sendler Project. She lives in Warsaw, but lived in New York for a number of years and attended American schools.
This church was built in 1911, two years before Irena moved to the little town of Otwock at age 3. The church was two blocks from her home and is where her father’s funeral was held in Feb. of 1917
Margaret is a graduate from Cornell, but lives in Warsaw and has studied medicine to become a doctor. Margaret was a translator on a 2002 Life in a Jar trip to Warsaw and recently has been assisting in research on the life of Irena Sendler.

This is the childhood home of Irena Sendler and also the site of her father’s children’s santitorium. Her father worked with children of Otwock, many of whom were Jewish and Irena became friends of these children. The building is quite large. Irena suffered from the respiratory disease of pertussis.

Irena would have walked down the street many times in her childhood. The street was only a block from her home. The Depaulo Church is at the end of the street.
