Joanna Fewins was an 8th grade student at Uniontown when she developed a documentary film on the life of Gordon Parks. She featured his beginning in local Fort Scott and his career as a world-renowned photographer and filmmaker. Joanna contacted Mr. Parks, and he assisted her in this project, suggesting a music score he had written for her film. She did great research into the work of African-Americans and was very successful with her film.

She received 1st prize at the Kan-Missouri Film Festival, lst at District and State History Day and at nationals her film was chosen as the outstanding junior division African-American film in America.

Joanna, her parents, Mr. Conard and some of the students visited Gordon Parks in his apartment overlooking the East River in New York City. This visit was the culmination of a wonderful diversity project.
